OVERVIEW OF BAPTISM FOR FORGIVENESS OF SINS

RETURN TO THE: BIBLE PAPERS HOME PAGE

This paper discusses the baptism scriptures that require baptism to be saved. It will show that only faith in Jesus is required & fruits of that faith are all these other things of God. All scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.

There are many more scriptures (such as John 3:16 and Romans 10:9) that state believing in Jesus bring salvation. Many other scriptures state that a Christian should: confess (Romans 10:9), repent of sins (Acts 2:38), love (1 John 4:7), overcome the world (1 John 5:4), walk in Christ (Colossians 3:10), faith (John 1:12), be Baptized (Mark 16:16) and on & on. Are these things needed for salvation? Just what is needed for salvation and forgiveness of our sins?

A Christian will try to follow Jesus in all these, but faith in Jesus is what saves the Christian.

INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:

THEME: Christianity is a relationship, not a religion of do's & do not's. All other religions center on laws. Christianity has principles. Jesus died two thousand years ago for the sins we commit: yesterday, today and tomorrow. A one time act/deed, by us, does not forgive those sins. The one time act/death and resurrection, by Jesus, has the power to forgive those sins.

1 Peter 3:20-21  It's the resurrection of Jesus that saves not the water which can only wash the filth off the flesh.

PURPOSE:

Romans 6:3-6

- Crucified with Christ Jesus: vs 6;

- Dead with Christ: vs 5;

- Buried with Christ: vs 4;

- Resurrected with Christ: vs 4;

- Newness of life with Christ: vs 4;

KEY VERSE:

Romans 6:3-6

WHO: God written mostly by Bible authors Luke, John, and Paul

TO WHOM: Elected men and women Christians

WHAT: Is it John's Baptism that is needed for forgiveness of sins or Jesus’ Baptism (Romans 6:3-4 and Ephesians 4:5)?  We would say, it is baptism into Jesus that saves. Repentance, is needed, meaning a turning from sins to righteousness, but everything a Christian does is Jesus centered.

Mark 1:4

John 15:5 Jesus is source for all good things.

Colossians 3:17 Every work and deed (baptism) is done in Jesus name. This is why we should baptize in the name of Jesus. In every thing Jesus should get the glory.

WHY: It's the calling upon Jesus that cleans sin. Baptism is symbol for cleaning.

Acts 22:16

WAY: All Christians should be Baptized after salvation and an after they have understood what Baptism means.  To perform an act is worthless.

1 Peter 3:20-21 It's the resurrection of Jesus that saves not the water which can only wash the filth off the flesh.

WHEREAS: God's method of being pleased is for us to have faith. The faith (forgiveness and eternal life) will produce works (baptism, etc) in the Christian.

Hebrews 11:6

WHERE: Earth

WHEN: All Christians should be Baptized after salvation and an after they have understood what Baptism means.  To perform an act is worthless.

WHILE: Paul was forgiven of his sins before his baptism.  The baptism confirmed who his Lord was.

Acts 9:17-18 Paul was baptized after his healing and being filled with the Holy Ghost.

Titus 3:5 Regeneration also means born again.

XII) IS BAPTISM A WORK OR DEED?:

XIII) FAITH IS WHAT SAVES A PERSON:

I) SALVATION BY BELIEVING IN JESUS: This is a small example of the many scriptures that state this.  Many more scriptures can be found.

John 3:16  Believe -> not perish -> eternal life

Romans 10:9  Confess -> believe -> saved

This scripture states confession is required (certainly to God).

II) BELIEVE & BE BAPTIZED FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS: All Christians should be Baptized after salvation and an after they have understood what Baptism means. To perform an act is worthless.

III) FIRST BAPTISM SCRIPTURE FOR SALVATION:

Mark 16:16  No statement that he that is not baptized shall be damned. Both items could of been included.

IV) RESPONSE:

Mark 16:17-18 What about all these works for those that believe. If they don't occur, does it mean they don't believe. No, these like baptism are what a maturing Christians will do.

Mark 1:4 Is it John's Baptism that is needed for forgiveness of sins or Jesus’ Baptism (Romans 6:3-4 and Ephesians 4:5)? We would say, it is baptism into Jesus that saves. Repentance, is needed, meaning a turning from sins to righteousness, but everything a Christian does is Jesus centered.

John 15:5 Jesus is source for all good things.

Colossians 3:17 Every work and deed (baptism) is done in Jesus name. This is why we should baptize in the name of Jesus. In every thing Jesus should get the glory.

V) SECOND BAPTISM SCRIPTURE FOR SALVATION:

Acts 2:38-41 Baptism is into Jesus to let others know who the Christian is a disciple of.

VI) RESPONSE:

Was it repentance, baptism, in the name of Jesus, two of them or all three of them that produce the remission of sins. So many scriptures state that believing in Jesus produces sins remission.

(such as Matthew 26:28; Luke 24:47; Hebrews 9:22). A Christian would gladly receive His word (to understand) and be baptized.

Matthew 26:28 Jesus death paid price.

Luke 24:47 Remission on sins that is to be preached is faith in Jesus.

Hebrews 9:22 Jesus blood

VII) THIRD BAPTISM SCRIPTURE FOR SALVATION:

Acts 22:16 It's the calling upon Jesus that cleans sin. Baptism is symbol for cleaning.

VIII) RESPONSE:

Acts 9:17-18 Paul was baptized after his healing and being filled with the Holy Ghost.  I thing he was forgiven of his sins before his baptism. The baptism confirmed who his Lord was.

Titus 3:5 Regeneration also means born again.

IX) FOURTH BAPTISM SCRIPTURE FOR SALVATION:

1 Peter 3:20-21 It's the resurrection of Jesus that saves not the water which can only wash the filth off the flesh.

X) RESPONSE: This is just like the above scripture showing a washing needed in the inner man. Noah was not saved by water, but by the ark.

John 15:5 Jesus is our source for all good things.  Baptism is a symbol of Salvation of what Jesus did and what we did through faith in Christ (see Romans 6:3-6 below).

XI) BAPTISM SYMBOLIZES US, IN CHRIST, BEING:

Romans 6:3-6

- Crucified with Christ Jesus: vs 6;

- Dead with Christ: vs 5;

- Buried with Christ: vs 4;

- Resurrected with Christ: vs 4;

- Newness of life with Christ: vs 4;

XII) IS BAPTISM A WORK OR DEED?: Need baptism to be saves or remits sins?

Colossians 3:17 Every work and deed (baptism) is done in Jesus name.

Ephesians 2:8-9 God saves, not our works. Grace is an um-merit act by God to us. We do not earn grace by anything we do, say, think or believe.  God even supplies the faith to the Christian.

Romans 12:3 God is doing work in us.

XIII) FAITH IS WHAT SAVES A PERSON:

Hebrews 11:6 God's method of being pleased is for us to have faith. The faith (forgiveness and eternal life) will produce works (baptism, etc) in the Christian.

Leviticus 17:11 A sacrifice of one dying was needed for atonement. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice of a sinless person.

Christianity is a relationship, not a religion of do's & do not's. All other religions center on laws.  Christianity has principles. Jesus died two thousand years ago for the sins we commit:

yesterday, today and tomorrow. A one time act/deed, by us, does not forgive those sins. The one time act/death and resurrection, by Jesus, has the power to forgive those sins.
