This paper discusses the Passover feast. God's people were told to keep the feast forever. Jesus observed all the feasts and was our Passover lamb. An example of a Seder is presented which would take under a half hour to complete. All scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.

INDUCTIVE COMMENTS:

THEME: PASSOVER SERVICE:

The Seder, meaning order, is a religious joyous feast. The Jewish family uses a book called the Haggadah, meaning retelling, for the order of service. The Passover was to retell the story of Israel's exodus from Egypt and their future redemption events. The meal is part of the service. A plate with several items is displayed. Every item has a meaning and will be explained. Each item is prayed over and blessed. The Lord's supper, communion, is given at the end of service just after the meal.

ROASTED SHANK-BONE: Symbolic of the blood put on the house door-posts. The death angel would past over the house, and the first born male would not be killed. The prophecy is also for the blood on the door-post of our hearts. Likewise the death angel would see Jesus blood and Passover us.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26 "For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the <same> night in which he was betrayed took bread: {24} And when he had given thanks, he brake <it>, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. {25} After the same manner also <he took> the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink <it>, in remembrance of me. {26} For as often as ye eat this bread, & drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come."

PURPOSE: PEOPLE WERE TO GO TO JERUSALEM:

Deuteronomy 16:16-17 "Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: {17} Every man <shall give> as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.

PASSOVER: (1 day duration). 14th day of Nisan 1st MONTH March/April. (PESACH) Next day, a Sabbath, Un-leaven Bread next day Firstfruits.

Deuteronomy 16:1-3 "Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the LORD thy God: for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night. {2} Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the LORD thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the LORD shall choose to place his name there. {3} Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, <even> the bread of affliction: for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life." Abib sub. Nisan

Exodus 12:5, 11-14 "Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take <it> out from the sheep, or from the goats: {11} And thus shall ye eat it; <with> your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it <is> the LORD'S passover. {12} For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I <am> the LORD. {13} And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye <are>: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy <you>, when I smite the land of Egypt. {14} And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever."

Leviticus 23:5 "In the fourteenth <day> of the first month at even <is> the Lord's passover."

KEY VERSE:

Mark 14:22-24 "And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake <it>, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. {23} And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave <it> to them: and they all drank of it. {24} And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many."

WHO: God mainly by Bible authors Moses, Matthew, John, Peter, and Paul

TO WHOM: Elected Christians

WHAT: CHRIST FULFILLS PASSOVER TYPE: CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS CHRIST

The perfect lamb is viewed for spots or broken bones & is killed.

1 Corinthians 5:7 "Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:"

1 Peter 1:18-19 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, <as> silver and gold, from your vain conversation <received> by tradition from your fathers; {19} But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"

WHY: JESUS PASSOVER SEDER:

Jesus celebrated the Seder with His disciples on the day when the lambs are killed.

Mark 14:12 "And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?"

WAY: HOW CAN CHRISTIAN FULFILL PASSOVER TYPE?: HAVE A CHRISTIAN SEDER

Romans 6:1-5 "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? {2} God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? {3} Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? {4} Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. {5} For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also <in the likeness> of <his> resurrection:"

1 Corinthians 11:20-21 "When ye come together therefore into one place, <this> is not to eat the Lord's supper. {21} For in eating every one taketh before <other> his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken."

Jude 1:12 "These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you,..."

WHEREAS:

MATZAH: 3 Un-leaven breads. They symbolizes a un-leaven (sinless) savior who was striped (wiped for our sorrows and sickness) and was pierced (nails pierced his hands, feet and side) for our sins on the cross. Three symbolize the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The middle piece is broken (Jesus was broken - killed) and half is hidden for the children to find (Jesus has been hidden from the Jew) and the child that finds it receives a reward (eternal life). The middle one is named Afikomen (The only Greek word in a Hebrew service). The Greek word means: I have come and I will come again.

Isaiah 53:5 "But he <was> wounded for our transgressions, <he was> bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace <was> upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."

The leader says: "This is the bread of affliction which our fore- fathers ate in Egypt. May those who are hungry and those in distress participate in the Passover. May all the people of Israel speedily come to know His fullness."

WINE: Four glasses of wine are given. 1st cup: The cup of freedom; 2nd cup: The cup of plagues; 3th cup: The cup of redemption; 4th cup: The cup of praise. Wine was a natural part of Israel's society. Wine symbolized joy, success and happy times.

For each cup of wine the male leader prays:

"Blessed art thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who created the fruit of the vine."

See my paper: "Communion" UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF COMMUNION for more information on this subject.

VI) PASSOVER SERVICE:

The Seder, meaning order, is a religious joyous feast. The Jewish family uses a book called the Haggadah, meaning retelling, for the order of service. The Passover was to retell the story of Israel's exodus from Egypt and their future redemption events. The meal is part of the service. A plate with several items is displayed. Every item has a meaning and will be explained. Each item is prayed over and blessed. The Lord's supper, communion, is given at the end of service just after the meal.

VII) SERVICE (HAGGADAH): The passover starts with the woman of the house, covering her hair, and lighting the candles. She prays:

"Blessed art thou, O lord our God, King of the universe, who hast sanctified us by thy commandments and hast commanded us to kindle the Festival light."

"Blessed art thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who hast kept us in life, and hast preserved us, and hast enabled us to reach this season."

John 8:12 "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

VIII) WINE: Four glasses of wine are given.

IX) FIRST CUP OF WINE:

The prayer for the wine is stated and the 1st cup of wine is drank.

X) WASHING:

Washing of the hands is done. Jesus also washed the disciples feet.

John 13:4-5 "He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. {5} After that he poureth water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe <them> with the towel wherewith he was girded."

XI) KARPAS: Parsley dipped in salted water. The leader prays:

"Blessed art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, Who created the fruit of the soil." We remember the tears and sweat of slavery. This was symbolic of slavery of sin which only Jesus could remove from us.

XII) MATZAH: 3 Un-leaven breads.

The 2nd cup of wine is filled. Do not drink the wine yet.

XIII) CHILD ASK THE FOUR QUESTIONS:

- Why is this night different from all other nights?

- On other nights we may eat leavened or un-leavened bread, but on this night why do we eat only un-leaven bread?

- On other nights we eat all types of herbs, but on this night why do we only eat bitter herbs?

- On other nights we do not dip once. On this night we dip twice.

Read Stephen's story of the Jewish people found in Arts 7:1-53.When you get to Acts 7:36 Moses leading the Jewish people out of the land of Egypt, you are to sing the song Dayenu (means: It would have been enough) is then sung. These plagues symbolize the gods of Egypt.

A detailed story of the exodus is presented here. If a full Seder is gone through, it could take a few hours. The Seder presented takes under a half hour. When the part of the story of the plagues is presented, after each of the 10 plagues are named, a drop of wine is place from the cup to the plate with the finger. The 10 plagues are: Blood, Frogs, Gnats, Flies, Murrain, Boils, Hail, Locusts, Darkness and The Slaying of the First-born.

XIV) ROASTED SHANK-BONE: Symbolic of the blood put on the house door-posts. The death angel would past over the house, and the first born male would not be killed. The prophecy is also for the blood on the door-post of our hearts. Likewise the death angel would see Jesus blood and passover us. Point to the shank-bone.

XV) HARD-BOILED EGG: Reminds us of the peace offering given at the temple the 2nd day of Pesach.

Romans 5:1 "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:"

Philippians 4:7 "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

The prayer for the wine is stated and the 3th cup of wine is drank.

XX) CHAROSES: Mixture of apples, cinnamon, walnuts and wine. This symbolizes the mortar for making bricks in Egypt. Leader prayer:

"Blessed art Thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe, Who created the fruit of the tree." Eat Charoses with matzah.

XXI) ELIJAH CUP OF WINE & SETTING: The house door is open & he is called

XXII) THE MAIN MEAL: Moses and Israel had a lamb for every family.
