MISC: PAUL’S QUALIFICATIONS {2 CORINTHIANS 1:1 – 13:14}

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GOD’S CHOSE PAUL

(1) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: {2 Corinthians 1:1}

(2) Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; {2 Corinthians 1:21}

(3) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. {2 Corinthians 3:6}

(4) Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; {2 Corinthians 4:1}

(5) And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; {2 Corinthians 5:18}

(6) But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, {2 Corinthians 6:4}

(7) Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. {2 Corinthians 11:15}

(8) Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. {2 Corinthians 11:23}

PAUL HAS HOLY SPIRIT

(1) Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. {2 Corinthians 1:22}

(2) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 2 Corinthians 3:6

(3) Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. {2 Corinthians 3:17}

(4) But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. {2 Corinthians 3:18}

(5) We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; {2 Corinthians 4:13}

(6) Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. {2 Corinthians 5:5}

(7) By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, {2 Corinthians 6:6}

(8) The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. {2 Corinthians 13:14}

PAUL DEPENDS ON GOD ALONE

(1) For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. {2 Corinthians 1:12}

(2) Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. {2 Corinthians 2:14}

(3) Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; {2 Corinthians 3:5}

(4) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. {2 Corinthians 3:6}

(5) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. {2 Corinthians 4:7}

(6) We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. {2 Corinthians 6:1}

(7) Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; {2 Corinthians 8:1}

(8) And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind: {2 Corinthians 8:19}

(9) And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: {2 Corinthians 9:8}

(10) And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. {2 Corinthians 9:14}

(11) And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. {2 Corinthians 12:9}

PAUL WAS GIVEN APOSTLE AUTHORITY

(1) Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: {2 Corinthians 10:1}

(2) But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. {2 Corinthians 10:2}

(3) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: {2 Corinthians 10:3}

(4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) {2 Corinthians 10:4}

(5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; {2 Corinthians 10:5}

(6) And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. {2 Corinthians 10:6}

(7) Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. {2 Corinthians 10:7}

(8) For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: {2 Corinthians 10:8}

(9) That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. {2 Corinthians 10:9}

(10) For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. {2 Corinthians 10:10}

(11) Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. {2 Corinthians 10:11}

(12) I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing. {2 Corinthians 12:11}

(13) Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. {2 Corinthians 12:12}

(14) Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. {2 Corinthians 13:10}

PAUL’S DIVINE VISIONS

(1) It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. {2 Corinthians 12:1}

(2) I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. {2 Corinthians 12:2}

(3) And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) {2 Corinthians 12:3}

(4) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. {2 Corinthians 12:4}

(5) Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities. {2 Corinthians 12:5}

(6) For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. {2 Corinthians 12:6}

(7) And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. {2 Corinthians 12:7}

PAUL’S MINISTRY TO CORINTHIANS

(1) And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea. {2 Corinthians 1:16}

(2) For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. {2 Corinthians 1:19}

(3) For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. {2 Corinthians 4:15}

(4) Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: {2 Corinthians 10:1}

5) For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: {2 Corinthians 10:14}

(6) But though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been thoroughly made manifest among you in all things. {2 Corinthians 11:6}

(7) Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. {2 Corinthians 12:12}

(8) For what is it wherein ye were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong. {2 Corinthians 12:13}

(9) And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed. {2 Corinthians 12:21}

PAUL LOVES THE CHURCH

(1) For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. {2 Corinthians 2:4}

(2) Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: {2 Corinthians 3:2}

(3) Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart. {2 Corinthians 3:3}

(4) For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: {2 Corinthians 5:14}

(5) By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, {2 Corinthians 6:6}

(6) O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. {2 Corinthians 6:11}

(7) Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. {2 Corinthians 6:12}

(8) Now for a recompense in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged. {2 Corinthians 6:13}

(9) I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you. {2 Corinthians 7:3}

(10) Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth. {2 Corinthians 11:11}

(11) And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. {2 Corinthians 12:15}

PAUL’S BLAMELESS CHARACTER AND ACTIONS

(1) For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. {2 Corinthians 1:12}

(2) But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. {2 Corinthians 4:2}

(3) Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed: {2 Corinthians 6:3}

(4) But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, {2 Corinthians 6:4}

(5) Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. {2 Corinthians 7:2}

(6) Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: {2 Corinthians 8:20}

(7) Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. {2 Corinthians 8:21}

(8) Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely? {2 Corinthians 11:7}

(9) I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service. {2 Corinthians 11:8}

(10) And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself. {2 Corinthians 11:9}

PAUL WAS TRUTHFUL

(1) But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay. {2 Corinthians 1:18}

(2) For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. {2 Corinthians 2:17}

(3) But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. {2 Corinthians 4:2}

(4) By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, {2 Corinthians 6:7}

(5) By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; {2 Corinthians 6:8}

(6) Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. {2 Corinthians 7:2}

(7) For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth. {2 Corinthians 7:14}

(8) As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia. {2 Corinthians 11:10}

(9) For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. {2 Corinthians 12:6}

(10) Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. {2 Corinthians 12:12}

(11) For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. {2 Corinthians 13:8}

PAUL WAS PERSECUTED & SUFFERS FOR THE FAITH

(1) Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. {2 Corinthians 1:4}

(2) For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. {2 Corinthians 1:5}

(3) And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. {2 Corinthians 1:6}

(4) And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation. {2 Corinthians 1:7}

(5) For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: {2 Corinthians 1:8}

(6) But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: {2 Corinthians 1:9}

(7) Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; {2 Corinthians 1:10}

(8) We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; {2 Corinthians 4:8}

(9) Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; {2 Corinthians 4:9}

(10) Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. {2 Corinthians 4:10}

(11) For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.{2 Corinthians 4:11}

(12) So then death worketh in us, but life in you. {2 Corinthians 4:12}

(13) But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, {2 Corinthians 6:4}

(14) In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; {2 Corinthians 6:5}

(15) As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; {2 Corinthians 6:9}

(16) As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. {2 Corinthians 6:10}

(17) For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. {2 Corinthians 7:5}

(18) In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me: {2 Corinthians 11:32}

(19) And through Who is weak a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands. {2 Corinthians 11:33}

PAUL’S INDIVIDUAL TRIALS

(1) We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; {2 Corinthians 4:8}

(2) Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; {2 Corinthians 4:9}

(3) Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. {2 Corinthians 4:10}

(4) For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. {2 Corinthians 4:11}

(5) So then death worketh in us, but life in you. {2 Corinthians 4:12}

(6) But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, {2 Corinthians 6:4}

(7) In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; {2 Corinthians 6:5}

(8) By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, {2 Corinthians 6:6}

(9) By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, {2 Corinthians 6:7}

(10) By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; {2 Corinthians 6:8}

(11) As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; {2 Corinthians 6:9}

(12) As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. {2 Corinthians 6:10}

(13) Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. {2 Corinthians 11:23}

(14) Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. {2 Corinthians 11:24}

(15) Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; {2 Corinthians 11:25}

(16) In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; {2 Corinthians 11:26}

(17) In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. {2 Corinthians 11:27}

(18) Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. {2 Corinthians 11:28}

(19), and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? {2 Corinthians 11:29}

(20) If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. {2 Corinthians 11:30}

(21) And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. {2 Corinthians 12:7}

(22) For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. {2 Corinthians 12:8}

(23) And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. {2 Corinthians 12:9}

(24) Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. {2 Corinthians 12:10}

Philippi: A Roman colony of retired solders with few Jews. Lydia (seller of purple) & her family, and Jailer & his family are saved. Paul & Silas on the 2nd missionary journey, Acts 16:12-40 were put into jail. Paul visits in Acts 20:1-6 on his 3rd mission journey.

Roman customs vs God's word.

Bishops: Shepherd's & teacher's that lead the flock for perfecting of saints.

The Church officers of Elder, Overseer, Presbyter, Bishop, Pastor and Shepherd are all similar positions.

Overseer is the same Greek word Bishop used in Philippians 1:1, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:7 and 1 Peter 2:25. Also called Elder in Acts 14:23 which is the same position as Bishop and Presbyters as found in 1 Timothy 4:14 and 1 Timothy 5:17. "To feed" is the same Greek word as shepherd. Pastor is found in Ephesians 4:11 and is the Greek word for shepherd. The shepherd is the one into whose care the sheep (flock) have been committed for feeding, caring, and protection for growth to maturity. The purpose of the different words are as follows: Elder indicates a mature spiritual experienced person in a position of authority. Bishop indicates the character of the work undertaken as overseer or guardian. Shepherd or Pastor indicates the function or responsibility of watching, teaching, and guiding the flock.

See my paper: "Church Officers and Their Qualifications" THE FIVE FOLD MINISTRIES & THE DEACON MINISTRY ARE PRESENTED for more information on this subject.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISC: BISHOP/PASTOR {1 TIMOTHY 3:1} {PHILIPPIANS 1:1}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PASTORS: Shepherd's & teacher's the flock for perfecting of saints.

The Church officers of Elder, Overseer, Presbyter, Bishop, Pastor and Shepherd are all similar positions. One may study Bible more.

Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (1 Peter 5:2: feed - shepherd and oversight - overseer)

Overseer is the same Greek word Bishop used in Philippians 1:1, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:7 and 1 Peter 2:25. Also called Elder in

Acts 14:23 which is the same position as Bishop and Presbyters as found in 1 Timothy 4:14 and 1 Timothy 5:17.

Titus 1:5-9 "For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee: {6} If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. {7} For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; {8} But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; {9} Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers."

1 Peter 5:1-5 "The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: {2} Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight <thereof>, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; {3} Neither as being lords over <God's> heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. {4} And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. {5} Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deacons:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISC: DEACON {1 TIMOTHY 3:8} {PHILIPPIANS 1:1}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEACONS: Reliable & spiritual men who serve the body of Christ in many ways as the needs arise.

The work of the Deacon is not explained in the Bible. It has been assumed that Acts 6:1-4 is that work. The definition of the word deacon is servant. The deacon is not ruler in church but a helper. Although, seven Deacons are found in Acts 6:3, this number was needed for the Jerusalem church of 5000 plus. The average church probably could use a maximum of one or two deacons.

Acts 6:1-4 "And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. {2} Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples <unto them>, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. {3} Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. {4} But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word."

The Bible gives examples of two of the seven, Stephen and Philip. Stephen became the first martyr as described in Acts 6:5 to 8:2. Philip, is an Evangelist as described in Acts 21:8. He has a ministry among the Samaritans as described in Acts 8:1 to 8:40. Nothing is stated about either of their Deacon ministries.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grace: Getting what we do not deserve as compared with mercy: not getting what we deserve.

God's grace within the Christian drives him to labor for God.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISC: GRACE {PHILIPPIANS 1:2}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRACE DEFINITION: Unmerited flavor from God to man. Getting what we do not deserve as compared with mercy: not getting what we deserve.

(1) Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Mercy not grace

GRACE IS A GIFT:

(1) Romans 5:15 "But not as the offence, so also <is> the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, <which is> by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many." Gift from God to elected believers only

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: <it is> the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should boast." God gives grace & we believe unto salvation. It is a gift of God and not of man's work.

WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE:

(1) Psalms 84:11 "For the LORD God <is> a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good <thing> will he withhold from them that walk uprightly." God gives the grace so man can walk saved

(2) Acts 15:11 "But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they." Grace from God to save the elect

(3) Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then <is it> no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if <it be> of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." God's grace is not man's works

GRACE GROWS BY KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS & OUR HUMILITY:

(1) Proverbs 3:34 "Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly." Grace to lowly

(2) James 4:6 "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." Grace to humble

(3) 1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."

(4) 2 Peter 1:2 "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord," Grace multipled by knowledge of God

(5) 2 Peter 3:18 "But grow in grace, and <in> the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him <be> glory both now and for ever. Amen."

GOD GIVES ONLY LOVING KINDNESS TO UNBELIEVER: Only Christians receive God's grace starting with salvation making them God's children. God provides loving kindness to man so that he can exist.

(1) Matthew 5:45 "That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." Loving kindness

(2) Acts 14:17 "Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness." Loving kindness

(3) 1 Timothy 6:17 "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;" Loving kindness

MAN MAY FAIL TO RECEIVE GOD'S GRACE: God provides grace to only His Christians. Unbelievers do not receive grace in vain, are bitter & defiled, have wrong gospel, & deny Jesus.

(1) 2 Corinthians 6:1 "We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain." God is blessing, but the unbeliever is not receiving making the grace vain

(2) Galatians 1:6-7 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: {7} Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ." To follow the wrong gospel removes the person from grace.

(3) Hebrews 12:15 "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;" Bitterness leads to failed grace.

(4) Jude 1:4 "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." God's grace used wrong leads man to denying Christ.

God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: God is a Triunity. God can not be divided. Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are the way the one God reveals Himself. If one sees Jesus, he also sees the Father and the Holy Spirit at the same time since God can not be separated (Colossians 1:15). Jesus is perfect man and God. Jesus was always God, but at His birth become true man. However, in the plan of God, Jesus was true man before the world came into existence.

See my paper: "Triunity: Father, Son, & Holy Spirit" GOD IS A QUALITATIVE ONE TRIUNITY NOT TRIUNE: THREE SEPARATE PERSONS. for more information on this subject.

MISC: RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD {JOHN 1:12 – 17:13} {PHILIPPIANS 1:2}

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name {John 1:12}

(2) Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God {John 1:13}

(3) Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did {John 2:23}

(4) But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men {John 2:24}

(5) And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up {John 3:14}

(6) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life {John 3:15}

(7) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life {John 3:16}

(8) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved) {John 3:17}

(9) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God {John 3:18}

(10) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth {John 4:24}

(11) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly {John 10:10}

(12) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent {John 17:3}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIST: GOD THE FATHER {JOHN 1:14 – 20:22} {PHILIPPIANS 1:2}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. {John 1:14}

(2) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. {John 1:18}

(3) The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. {John 3:35}

(4) Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. {22} Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. {23} But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. {John 4:21-23}

(5) But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. {18} Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. {19} Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. {20} For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. {21} For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. {22} For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: {23} That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. {24} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. {25} Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. {6 } For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;" {John 5:17-26}

(6) I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. {John 5:30}

(6) But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. {37} And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. {John 5:36-37}

(8) Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. {John 5:45}

(9) Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. {28} Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? {29} Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. {John 6:27-29}

(10) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. {33} For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. {34} Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. {35} And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. {36} But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. {37} All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. {38} For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. {39} And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. {40} And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. {41} The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. {42} And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? {43} Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. {44} No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. {45} It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. {46} Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. {John 6:32-46}

(11) As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. {58} This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. {John 6:57-58}

(12) And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. {John 6:65}

(13) And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. {17} It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. {18} I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. {19} Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. {John 8:16-19}

(14) They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. {28} Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. {29} And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. {John 8:27-29}

(15) I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. {39} They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. {40} But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. {41} Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. {42} Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. {John 8:38-42}

(16) Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. {John 8:49}

(17) Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? {54} Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: {John 8:53-54}

(18) As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. {16} And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. {17} Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. {18} No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. {John 10:15-18}

(19) Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? {37} If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. {38} But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. {John 10:36-38}

(20) Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. {42} And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. {John 11:41-42}

(21) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. {27} Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. {28} Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. {John 12:26-28}

(22) For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. {50} And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. {1} Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. {2} And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; {3} Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; {John 12:49-13:3}

(23) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. {7} If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. {8} Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. {9} Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? {10} Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. {11} Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. {12} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. {13} And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. {14} If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. {15} If ye love me, keep my commandments. {16} And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; {John 14:6-16}

(24) At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. {21} He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. {22} Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? {23} Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. {24} He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. {25} These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. {26} But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. {27} Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. {28} Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. {29} And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. {30} Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. {31} But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence. {1} I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. {John 14:20-15:1}

(25) Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. {9} As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. {John 15:8-9}

(26) Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. {16} Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. {John 15:15-16}

(27) He that hateth me hateth my Father also. {24} If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. {25} But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. {26} But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: {John 15:23-26}

(28) And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. {John 16:3}

(29) Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. {8} And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: {9} Of sin, because they believe not on me; {10} Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; {11} Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. {John 16:7-11}

(30) All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you. {16} A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. {17} Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? {John 16:15-17}

(31) And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. {24} Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. {25} These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father. {26} At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: {27} For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. {28} I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. {John 16:23-28}

(32) Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. {33} These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. {1} These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: {John 16:32-17:1}

(33) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. {John 17:5}

(34) And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.{12} While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. {John 17:11-12}

(35) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. {22} And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: {23} I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. {24} Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. {25} O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. {26} And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. {John 17:21-26}

(36) Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? {John 18:11}

(37) Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. {John 20:17}

(38) Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. {22} And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: {John 20:21-22}

(5) And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; {10} That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; {11} Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. {Philippians 1:9-11}

Your love -> Knowledge -> Judgment -> Approve excellent -> Sincere -> Without Offence -> Righteousness -> To Day of Christ -> Filled fruits of righteousness -> By Jesus Christ -> Glory and Praise of God

(6) For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; {10} That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; {11} Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; {12} Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: {13} Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: {14} In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: {Colossians 1:9-14}

(7) Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. {12} And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: {13} To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. {1 Thessalonians 3:11-13}

(8) Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: {12} That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. {2 Thessalonians 1:11-12}

(9) Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, {21} Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. {Hebrews 13:20-21}

(10) But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. {11} To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. {1 Peter 5:10-11}

Your love may abound more in knowledge and judgment (discernment):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KEY WORD: KNOW {PHILIPPIANS 1:9 - 4:15}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; {Philippians 1:9}

(2) But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. {Philippians 1:17}

(3) For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, {Philippians 1:19}

(4) And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; {Philippians 1:25}

(5) But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. {Philippians 2:19}

(6) But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel. {Philippians 2:22}

(7) Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, {Philippians 3:8}

(8) That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; {Philippians 3:1}

(9) Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. {Philippians 4:5}

(10) Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. {Philippians 4:6}

(11) I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. {Philippians 4:12}

(12) Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. {Philippians 4:15}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being filled with the fruits of righteousness by Jesus Christ:

Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, {23} Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

MISC: RIGHTEOUSNESS NOT OF THE LAW {PHILIPPIANS 1:11 - 3:9}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. {Philippians 1:11}

(2) Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. {Philippians 3:6}

(3) And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: {Philippians 3:9}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISC: FAITH - RIGHTEOUSNESS 430 YEARS BEFORE LAW {GALATIANS 3:5-17} {PHILIPPIANS 1:11 - 3:9}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SPIRIT -> ABRAHAM -> BELIEVER (FAITH) - RIGHTEOUS > MIRACLES > FAITH > 430 YEARS -> MOSES & LAW

(1) He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? {Galatians 3:5}

(2) Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. {Galatians 3:6}

(3) Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. {Galatians 3:7}

(4) And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. {Galatians 3:8}

(5) So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. {Galatians 3:9}

(6) For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. {Galatians 3:10}

(7) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. {Galatians 3:11}

(8) And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. {Galatians 3:12}

(9) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: {Galatians 3:13}

(10) That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. {Galatians 3:14}

(11) Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. {Galatians 3:15}

(12) Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. {Galatians 3:16}

(13) And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. {Galatians 3:17}

MISC: WORD OF GOD {PHILIPPIANS 1:14, 2:16}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I) Word of God starts Christians in new life:

(1) 1 Peter 1:23 "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." The word of God brings people to the new life.

II) Word is to Teach:

(1) 2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"

(2) 2 Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. {21} For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

III) Teaching help's the Christian to Grow:

(1) 1 Peter 2:2 "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:"

IV) Word cleans & purifies:

(1) Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

V) Word is written in the Old Testament book:

(1) Jeremiah 30:1-2 "The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, {2} Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book."

VI) Word is written in the New Testament book:

(1) 1 Thessalonians 2:13 "For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe." The apostles wrote & spoke the word of God about Jesus.

(2) Acts 17:10-11 "And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. {11} These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." Berean's searched the Old Testament to verify New Testament.

(3) 2 Peter 3:15-16 "And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; {16} As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction." Paul's New Testament epistles are scriptures.

IV) EXHORTATIONS: {PHILIPPIANS 1:27-2:18}

Striving for the faith:

See my paper: "Faith" FAITH PROMISES PRESENTED FOR EVERY ASPECT OF THE CHRISTIANS LIFE: SALVATION & HEALING. THE CONDITIONS. for more information on this subject.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISC: FAITH FACTS AND EXAMPLES {HEBREWS 11:1 – 12:2} {PHILIPPIANS 1:27}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) WHAT IS FAITH? Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. {2} For by it the elders obtained a good report. {3} Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. {Hebrews 11:1-3}

(2) WHAT IS IMPORTANT ABOUT FAITH? But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. {Hebrews 11:6}

(3) WHAT ARE RESULTS OF FAITH? By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. {5} By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. {Hebrews 11:4-5}

(4)
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. {8} By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. {9} By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. {10}
Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. {11} Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. {12} By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, {17}
Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: {18} Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. {19} By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. {20} By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff. {21} By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. {Hebrews 11:7-12, 17-21}

(5) By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. {23} By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; {24} Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; {25} Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. {26} By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. {27} Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. {28} By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. {29} By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. {30} By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. {31} And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: {32} Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, {33} Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. {Hebrews 11:22-34}

(6) WHAT HAPPENED TO SOME IN THEIR FAITH? Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: {36} And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: {37} They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; {38} (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. {Hebrews 11:35-38}

(7) WHAT IF THEY DO NOT RECEIVE THE PROMISES OF FAITH? These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. {14} For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. {15} And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. {16} But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city {Hebrews 11:13-16}

(8) And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: {40} God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. {Hebrews 11:39-40}

(9) WHAT REASONS TO LIVE IN FAITH? Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, {Hebrews 12:1}

(10) WHAT GIVES US FAITH? Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. {Hebrews 12:2}

MISC: WORD OF GOD {PHILIPPIANS 1:14, 2:16}

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISC: JESUS THE WORD OF GOD {JOHN 1:1 – 17:17} {PHILIPPIANS 2:16}

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God {John 1:1}

(2) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth {John 1:14}

(3) For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.{John 3:34}

(4) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. {John 5:24}

(5) And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. {39} Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. {John 5:38-39}

(6) For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. {47} But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? {John 5:46-47}

(7) It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. {John 6:63}

(8) Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. {69} And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. {John 6:68-69}

(9) As he spake these words, many believed on him. {31} Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; {32} And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. {John 8:30-32}

(10) He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. {John 8:47}

(11) Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? {35} If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; {John 10:34-35}

(12) And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. {48} He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day {John 12:47-48}

(13) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. {49} For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. {John 12:48-49}

(14) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. {11} Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. {John 14:10-11}

(15) Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. {24} He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. {John 14:23-24}

(16) Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. {John 15:3}

(17) If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. {John 15:7}

(18) But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. {John 15:25}

(19) I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. {8} For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. {John 17:6, 8}

(20) I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. {17} Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. {John 17:14, 17}

I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly: Bonds or prison. Nevertheless, Paul shows his faith that he will be released to go to Philippi and Colosse.

Epaphroditus: His name means agreeable and handsome. Philippians 4:18 is the only Biblical references. He came with gifts from Philippi and helped Paul. Paul is sending him back.

See my paper: "Apostle" SHOWN ARE THE NEW TESTAMENT APOSTLES & THEIR MINISTRIES for more information on this subject.

Companion in labour ... fellowsoldier ... your messenger:

Messenger = ambassador = apostle. See apostle paper.

He was sick: Christians can get sick, because of their sin, overworked in Gospel, or God's purpose. God's promises should be exercised to get them healed.

Esaias = Isaiah 53; Healing is in the atonement.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He was whipped for our infirmities & sicknesses.

Christians can be sick, but Jesus will heal them that believe in his healing work of Isaiah 53.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For work of Christ ... sick unto death ... to supply your service:

Elijah raised child {1 Kings 17:19-23}; Elisha raised Stunammite son {2 Kings 4:32-37}; Elisha died & his bones raise dead person {2 Kings 13:20-21}; Upon Jesus death, dead saint arose in Jerusalem {Matthew 27:50-53}; Jesus raised Young man {Luke 7:12-15}; Jesus raised young girl {Luke 8:52-56}; {Matthew 9:18-19, 23-25}; {Mark 5:35-43}; and Jesus raised Lazarus {John 11:43-44}; Peter raised Dorcas {Acts 9:36-41}; Paul raised Eutychus who fell asleep and fell to his death {Acts 20:7-11}; Woman receive their dead raised back to life {Hebrews 11:35}. ONLY ALL THESE DIED AGAIN. JESUS DIED ONLY ONCE AND WAS FIRSTFRUITS RAISED WITH AN IMMORTAL BODY THAT WILL NOT DIE AGAIN.

(1) And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? {19} And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. {20} And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? {21} And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. {22} And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. {23} And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. {1 Kings 17:18-23}

(2) And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. {33} He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD. {34} And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. {35} Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. {36} And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son. {37} Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out. {2 Kings 4:32-37}

(3) And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year. {21} And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet. {2 Kings 13:20-21}
(4)
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. {51} And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; {52} And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, {53} And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. {Matthew 27:50-53}

(5) Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. {13}
And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. {14} And
he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. {15} And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. {Luke 7:12-15}

(6) And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. {53} And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. {54} And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. {55} And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. {56} And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done. {Luke 8:52-56}; {Matthew 9:18-19, 23-25}; {Mark 5:35-43}

(7) And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. {44} And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. {John 11:43-44}

(8) Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. {37} And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. {38} And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. {39} Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. {40} But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. {41} And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive. {Acts 9:36-41}

(9) And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. {8} And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. {9} And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. {10} And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. {11} When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. {12} And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted. {Acts 20:7-12}

(3) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. {Philippians 4:7}

(4) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. {Philippians 4:8}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
