I) INTRODUCTION (POWER OF SALVATION): {ROMANS 1:1-1:15}

A) Paul (Saul): Saul means asked for and Paul means little or small. Paul had plenty & little (Philippians 4:12). Paul's conversion (Acts 9:1-22). He was the apostle to the gentiles (Acts 9:15-16/Galatians 2:8). His apostleship care was always for the church (Romans 8:36), but he was many times challenged as an apostle (1 Corinthians 9:1-5). He made four missionary trips (Acts 13:2-14:28; 15:40-18:23; 18:23-21:17; 1 Timothy 1:3/Titus 1:3/Philemon 22) & started several churches. Paul was taken to Rome as a prisoner & was later released. Paul again became a prisoner in Rome & was martyred for his faith in Jesus. Paul wrote 14 books (Romans to Hebrews) of the 27 books in the New Testament. Peter called them scripture (2 Peter 3:15-16).

GOD’S CHOSE PAUL

(1) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: {2 Corinthians 1:1}

(2) Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; {2 Corinthians 1:21}

(3) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. {2 Corinthians 3:6}

(4) Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; {2 Corinthians 4:1}

(5) And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; {2 Corinthians 5:18}

(6) But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, {2 Corinthians 6:4}

(7) Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. {2 Corinthians 11:15}

(8) Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. {2 Corinthians 11:23}

PAUL HAS HOLY SPIRIT

(1) Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. {2 Corinthians 1:22}

(2) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 2 Corinthians 3:6

(3) Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. {2 Corinthians 3:17}

(4) But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. {2 Corinthians 3:18}

(5) We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; {2 Corinthians 4:13}

PAUL DEPENDS ON GOD ALONE

(1) For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. {2 Corinthians 1:12}

(2) Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. {2 Corinthians 2:14}

(3) Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; {2 Corinthians 3:5}

(4) Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. {2 Corinthians 3:6}

(5) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. {2 Corinthians 4:7}

(6) We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. {2 Corinthians 6:1}

(7) Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; {2 Corinthians 8:1}

PAUL WAS GIVEN APOSTLE AUTHORITY

(1) Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: {2 Corinthians 10:1}

(2) But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. {2 Corinthians 10:2}

(3) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: {2 Corinthians 10:3}

(4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) {2 Corinthians 10:4} 

(5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; {2 Corinthians 10:5}

(6) And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. {2 Corinthians 10:6}

(7) Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. {2 Corinthians 10:7}

(8) For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: {2 Corinthians 10:8}

(9) That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. {2 Corinthians 10:9}

(10) For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. {2 Corinthians 10:10}

(11) Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. {2 Corinthians 10:11}

(12) I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing. {2 Corinthians 12:11}

(13) Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds. {2 Corinthians 12:12}

(14) Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. {2 Corinthians 13:10}

PAUL’S DIVINE VISIONS

(1) It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. {2 Corinthians 12:1}

(2) I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. {2 Corinthians 12:2}

(3) And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) {2 Corinthians 12:3}

(4) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. {2 Corinthians 12:4}

(5) Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities. {2 Corinthians 12:5}

(6) For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me. {2 Corinthians 12:6}

(7) And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. {2 Corinthians 12:7}

PAUL’S MINISTRY TO CORINTHIANS

(1) And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea. {2 Corinthians 1:16}

(2) For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. {2 Corinthians 1:19}

(3) For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. {2 Corinthians 4:15}

PAUL LOVES THE CHURCH

(1) For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. {2 Corinthians 2:4}

(2) Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: {2 Corinthians 3:2}

(3) Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart. {2 Corinthians 3:3}

(4) For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: {2 Corinthians 5:14}

(5) By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, {2 Corinthians 6:6}

(6) O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged. {2 Corinthians 6:11}

(7) Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels. {2 Corinthians 6:12}

(8) Now for a recompense in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged. {2 Corinthians 6:13}

PAUL’S BLAMELESS CHARACTER AND ACTIONS

(4) But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, {2 Corinthians 6:4}

(5) Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. {2 Corinthians 7:2}

(6) Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us: {2 Corinthians 8:20}

PAUL WAS TRUTHFUL

(1) But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay. {2 Corinthians 1:18}

(2) For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. {2 Corinthians 2:17}

B) Called to be an apostle: An Apostle is one sent by God, with power of attorney and authority, to act (with power) in place of sender. He was chosen and ordained to the position to be a witness of what God shows him. Apostles started many churches and appointed Elders to the church.

C) Separated: The term means the same as sanctification or to be set apart, consecrated, dedicated and separated for a special purpose, function or use. A derived (not scriptural) meaning is to be holy and pure. In the Old Testament the word holy was used with prostitutes as set apart for evil. Sanctified is what a believer is now; perfected is what a believer is to become. Sanctify sainted, set apart, by God, for His purpose.

- His message was in harmony with previous revelation. History will confirms his authenticity.

Berean's searched the Old Testament to verify New Testament.

GRACE IS A GIFT:

(1) Romans 5:15 "But not as the offence, so also <is> the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, <which is> by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many." Gift from God to elected believers only

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: <it is> the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should boast." God gives grace & we believe unto salvation. It is a gift of God and not of man's work.

WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE:

(1) Psalms 84:11 "For the LORD God <is> a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good <thing> will he withhold from them that walk uprightly." God gives the grace so man can walk saved

(2) Acts 15:11 "But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they." Grace from God to save the elect

(3) Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then <is it> no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if <it be> of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." God's grace is not man's works

GRACE GROWS BY KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS & OUR HUMILITY:

(1) Proverbs 3:34 "Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly." Grace to lowly

(2) James 4:6 "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." Grace to humble

(3) 1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."

(4) 2 Peter 1:2 "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord," Grace multipled by knowledge of God

(5) 2 Peter 3:18 "But grow in grace, and <in> the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him <be> glory both now and for ever. Amen."

GOD GIVES ONLY LOVING KINDNESS TO UNBELIEVER: Only Christians receive God's grace starting with salvation making them God's children. God provides loving kindness to man so that he can exist.

(1) Matthew 5:45 "That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." Loving kindness

(2) Acts 14:17 "Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness." Loving kindness

(3) 1 Timothy 6:17 "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;" Loving kindness

MAN MAY FAIL TO RECEIVE GOD'S GRACE: God provides grace to only His Christians. Unbelievers do not receive grace in vain, are bitter & defiled, have wrong gospel, & deny Jesus.

(1) 2 Corinthians 6:1 "We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain." God is blessing, but the unbeliever is not receiving making the grace vain

(2) Galatians 1:6-7 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: {7} Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ." To follow the wrong gospel removes the person from grace.

(3) Hebrews 12:15 "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;" Bitterness leads to failed grace.

(4) Jude 1:4 "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." God's grace used wrong leads man to denying Christ.

(1) WHAT IS FAITH? Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. {2} For by it the elders obtained a good report. {3} Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. {Hebrews 11:1-3}

(2) WHAT IS IMPORTANT ABOUT FAITH? But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. {Hebrews 11:6}

(3) WHAT ARE RESULTS OF FAITH? By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. {5} By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. {Hebrews 11:4-5}

(6) WHAT HAPPENED TO SOME IN THEIR FAITH? Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: {36} And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: {37} They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; {38} (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. {Hebrews 11:35-38}

(7) WHAT IF THEY DO NOT RECEIVE THE PROMISES OF FAITH? These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. {14} For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. {15} And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. {16} But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city {Hebrews 11:13-16}

(8) And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: {40} God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. {Hebrews 11:39-40}

(9) WHAT REASONS TO LIVE IN FAITH? Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, {Hebrews 12:1}

(10) WHAT GIVES US FAITH? Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. {Hebrews 12:2}

God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: God is a Triunity. God can not be divided. Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are the ways the one God reveals himself. If one sees Jesus, he also sees the Father and the Holy Spirit at the same time since God can not be divided (Colossians 1:15). Jesus is perfect man and perfect God.

(6) I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. {John 5:30}

Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. {46} Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. {John 6:32-46}

(11) As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. {58} This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. {John 6:57-58}

(12) And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. {John 6:65}
