JAMES BACKGROUND:

A) SCRIPTURE CONNECTION TO JESUS:

Jesus half brother of both James and Jude with a common mother Mary and Joseph as common earthly father after Jesus is adoption by His earthly father Joseph.

James 1:1 "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting."

Jude 1:1 "Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:"

B) CALLED TO THE MINISTRY:

Acts 1:14 "These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren."

See my paper: "Mary" MARY, JESUS MOTHER, IS NOT GOD'S MOTHER. SHE SINNED, HAD SEVERAL CHILDREN & WAS SAVED. for more information on this subject.

See my paper: "Virgin" VIRGIN MARY, JESUS IS BORN TO VIRGIN WOMAN MOTHER, SHE HAD SEVERAL CHILDREN AFTER JESUS. for more information on this subject.

1 Corinthians 15:6-7 "After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. {7} After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles."

Galatians 1:19 "But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother".

C) DISCIPLES & FAMILY OF JESUS:

Jude brother of James: Jude/James didn't believe at first & wanted Jesus killed John 7:1-8

Matthew 13:55 "Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?"

Mark 6:3 "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him."

See my paper: "Disciples & Others of Jesus Family" CLOSE RELATIONSHIPS JESUS HAD WITH HIS FAMILY. DISCIPLES THAT WERE FAMILY for more information on this subject.

See my paper: "Family Chart" OF JESUS DISCIPLES for more information on this subject.

D) HIS BROTHERS DID NOT BELIEVE:

Psalm 69:8 "I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children."

John 7:5 "For neither did his brethren believe in him"

E) JESUS' BROTHERS WANTED JESUS KILLED:

Mark 13:57 "And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house."

John 1:10-11 "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. {11} He came unto his own, and his own received him not."

John 7:1-10 "After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.{2} Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand. {3}
His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.{4} For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. {5} For neither did his brethren believe in him. {6} Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.{7} The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.{8} Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.{9} When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. {10} But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret."

F) JESUS FAMILY BELIEVED JESUS WAS MAD OR CRACY:

Mark 3:21 "And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself."

John 10:20 "And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?"

G) JAMES:

James: Three with name: James, brother of John, (Matthew 4:21, 10:2; killed by Herod 44 AD, Acts 12:1-2) called James the greater whose father was Zebedee and mother (Jesus Aunt) was Salome. James, the less (Matthew 10:3; Mark 3:18, 15:40), son of Alphaeus and brothers of Matthew and Jude whose mother was Mary (Jesus Aunt). James the half brother of Jesus (both having Mary as mother. However, Jesus father is God not Joseph (although Joseph becomes the adopted earthly father to Jesus as he married Mary before she gave birth to Jesus.) At first James and his brothers did not believe in Jesus and may have wanted him killed (John 7:1-9). Possibly married (1 Corinthians 9:5) and probably the oldest of Jesus brothers (Mark 6:3) since he leads the list. Also another of Jesus brothers, Jude, wrote the Bible book of Jude. Jesus mother, Mary, may of been a believer and this was the reason Jesus turns her over to John (John 19:26-27) & not to his brothers.

JAMES & SERMON ON THE MOUNT PARALLELS

SUBJECT

JAMES

SERMON ON MOUNT

Perfection

James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Ask -> Receive

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Doer of the word

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Matthew 7:24-26 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: {25} And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. {26} And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

Poor - Rich

James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

Luke 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Mercy

James 2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Fruits

James 3:10-12 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. {11} Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? {12} Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

Matthew 7:15-20 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. {16} Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? {17} Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. {18} A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. {19} Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. {20} Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Laughter -> Mourning

James 4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

Luke 6:25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

Judge brother

James 4:11-12 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. {12} There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Matthew 7:1-5 Judge not, that ye be not judged. {2} For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. {3} And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? {4} Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? {5} Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Rich -> Miseries

James 5:1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

Luke 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

Treasures

James 5:2-3 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. {3} Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Matthew 6:19-24 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: {20} But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: {21} For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. {22} The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. {23} But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! {24} No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Word & Swear

James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

Matthew 5:33-37 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: {34} But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: {35} Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. {36} Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. {37} But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

LIST: GOD THE FATHER {JOHN 1:14 – 20:22} {JAMES 1:1}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. {John 1:14}

(2) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. {John 1:18}

(3) The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. {John 3:35}

(4) Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. {22} Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. {23} But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. {John 4:21-23}

(5) But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. {18} Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. {19} Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. {20} For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. {21} For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. {22} For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: {23} That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. {24} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. {25} Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. {6 } For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;" {John 5:17-26}

(6) I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. {John 5:30}

(6) But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. {37} And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. {John 5:36-37}

(8) Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. {John 5:45}

(9) Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. {28} Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? {29} Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. {John 6:27-29}

(10) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. {33} For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. {34} Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. {35} And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. {36} But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. {37} All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. {38} For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. {39} And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. {40} And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. {41} The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. {42} And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? {43} Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. {44} No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. {45} It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. {46} Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. {John 6:32-46}

(11) As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. {58} This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. {John 6:57-58}

(12) And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. {John 6:65}

(13) And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. {17} It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. {18} I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. {19} Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. {John 8:16-19}

(14) They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. {28} Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. {29} And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. {John 8:27-29}

(15) I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. {39} They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. {40} But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. {41} Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. {42} Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. {John 8:38-42}

(16) Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me. {John 8:49}

(17) Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself? {54} Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: {John 8:53-54}

(18) As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. {16} And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. {17} Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. {18} No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. {John 10:15-18}

(19) Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? {37} If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. {38} But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. {John 10:36-38}

(20) Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. {42} And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. {John 11:41-42}

(21) If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. {27} Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. {28} Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. {John 12:26-28}

(22) For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. {50} And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. {1} Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. {2} And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him; {3} Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; {John 12:49-13:3}

(23) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. {7} If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. {8} Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. {9} Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? {10} Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. {11} Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. {12} Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. {13} And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. {14} If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. {15} If ye love me, keep my commandments. {16} And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; {John 14:6-16}

(24) At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. {21} He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. {22} Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? {23} Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. {24} He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. {25} These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. {26} But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. {27} Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. {28} Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. {29} And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. {30} Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. {31} But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence. {1} I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. {John 14:20-15:1}

(25) Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. {9} As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. {John 15:8-9}

(26) Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. {16} Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. {John 15:15-16}

(27) He that hateth me hateth my Father also. {24} If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. {25} But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. {26} But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: {John 15:23-26}

(28) And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. {John 16:3}

(29) Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. {8} And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: {9} Of sin, because they believe not on me; {10} Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; {11} Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. {John 16:7-11}

(30) All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you. {16} A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. {17} Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? {John 16:15-17}

(31) And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. {24} Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. {25} These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father. {26} At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: {27} For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. {28} I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. {John 16:23-28}

(32) Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. {33} These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. {1} These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: {John 16:32-17:1}

(33) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. {John 17:5}

(34) And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.{12} While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. {John 17:11-12}

(35) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. {22} And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: {23} I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. {24} Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. {25} O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. {26} And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. {John 17:21-26}

(36) Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? {John 18:11}

(37) Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. {John 20:17}

(38) Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. {22} And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: {John 20:21-22}

Twelve tribes which are scattered: Israel has twelve tribes today. Nebuchadnezzar sieges caused the northern ten tribe to go into captivity. Only a small group of them returned to Israel. Jews have been found in most cities since. Here James' is referring to Hebrew Christians.

Acts 2:5-9 "And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. {6} Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. {7} And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? {8} And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? {9} Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,"

Acts 26:6-7 "And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers: {7} Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews."

(4) Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. {James 5:10}

(5) Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. {James 5:11}

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KEEP THE WORD:

I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. {7} Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. {8} For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. {John 17:6-8}

WITH BOLDNESS SPEAK THE WORD OF GOD:

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, {30} By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. {31} And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. {32} And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. {33} And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. {Acts 4:29-33}

MAKE NOT PROVISION FOR THE FLESH:

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. {12} The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. {13} Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. {14} But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof" {Romans 13:11-14}

RUN THE RACE: Deny and discipline yourselves for heavenly prize

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. {24} And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they <do it> to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. {25} I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: {26} But I keep under my body, and bring <it> into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. {1 Corinthians 9:24-27}

ALL THINGS FOR SAINTS: Looking for eternal unseen things

For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. {16} For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. {17} For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; {18} While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. {2 Corinthians 4:15-18}

DO GOOD TOWARDS OTHERS: Sow and reap for good spiritual life

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. {Matthew 7:12}

And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. {Luke 6:31}

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. {8} For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. {9} And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. {10} As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. {Galatians 6:7-10}

FIGHT THE CHRISTIAN LIFE: Standing against Satan for all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. {11} Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. {12} For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.{13} Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. {14} Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; {15} And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; {16} Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. {17} And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: {18} Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; {Ephesians 6:10-18}

PRESS FOWARDS: Towards the prize of high calling of God in Christ Jesus

Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. {13} Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, {14} I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. {Philippians 3:12-14}

BE NOT MOVED: Fulfill Word of God of mystery manifested to the saints

If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; {24} Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church: {25} Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; {26} Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: {Colossians 1:23-26}

LIVE IN FAITH AND LOVE WITH HOPE OF SALVATION:

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. {9} For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, {10} Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. {11} Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. {1 Thessalonians 5:8-11}

GROW IN FAITH:

We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth; {4} So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: {5} Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: {2 Thessalonians 1:3-5}

FIGHT THE GOOD FAITH FIGHT:

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. {13} I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; {14} That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: {15} Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; {1 Timothy 6:12-15}

ENDURE FIGHT: For others to obtain the salvation in Christ Jesus with eternal glory

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. {4} No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. {5} And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. {6} The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. {7} Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. {8}Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel: {9} Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound. {10} Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. {2 Timothy 2:3-10}

BE RENEWED IN THE HOLY GHOST:

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, {5} Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; {6} Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; {7} That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. {Titus 3:4-7}

LOVE AND FAITH TOWARDS GOD AND SAINTS:

I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, {5} Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; {6} That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. {7} For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. {Philemon 1:4-7}

RUN WITH PATIENCE:

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, {2} Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. {3} For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. {4} Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. {Hebrews 12:1-4}

ESTABLISH YOUR HEART:

Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. {9} Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door. {10} Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. {11} Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. {James 5:8-11}

SPEAK AS ORACLES OF GOD:

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. {12} Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: {13} But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. {14} If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. {1 Peter 4:11-14}

PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE:

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. {5} And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; {6} And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; {7} And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. {8} For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. {2 Peter 1:4-8}

LOVE NOT THE WORLD:

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. {16} For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. {17} And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. {1 John 2:15-17}

LOVE ONE ANOTHER:

I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. {5} And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. {6} And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. {7} For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. {2 John 1:4}

WALK IN TRUTH:

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. {5} Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; {6} Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: {7} Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. {3 John 1:4-7}

BUILD UP YOURSELVES:

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, {21} Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. {22} And of some have compassion, making a difference: {23} And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. {24} Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, {Jude 1:20-24}

HOLD FAST:

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. {11} Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. {12} Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. {Revelation 3:10-12}

RESULTS:

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. {7} I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: {8} Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. {2 Timothy 4:6-8}

Work:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KEY WORD: WORK {JAMES 1:4 – 3:16}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) But let patience have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing {James 1:4}

(2) For the wrath of man works not the righteousness of God {James 1:20}

(3) But who looks into the perfect law of liberty, & continues, not forgeting, but is a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in his deeds {James 1:25}

(4) What does it profit, my brother, if a man say he has faith, and has not works then can faith save him {James 2:14}

(5) Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone {James 2:17}

(6) A man may say, you have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works {James 2:18}

(7) But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead {James 2:20}

(8) Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar {James 2:21}

(9) See how faith with works are together, and by works was faith made perfect {James 2:22}

(10) You see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only {James 2:24}

(11) Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way {James 2:25}

(12) For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also {James 2:26}

(13) Who is a wise man & endued with knowledge then let him show by his good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom {James 3:13}

(14) But if you have bitter envying & strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth {James 3:14}

(15) This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, & of the devil {James 3:15}

(16) For where envying & strife is, there is confusion & every evil work {James 3:16}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WAIT: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

MISC: PRAYERS IN OTHER NEW TESTAMENT BIBLE BOOKS {JAMES 1:6}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, {30} By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. {Acts 4:29-30}

(2) Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: {6} That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. {13} Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. {Romans 15:5-6, 13}

(3) That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: {18} The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, {19} And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, {20} Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, {Ephesians 1:17-20}

(4) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; {17} That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, {18} May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; {19} And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. {Ephesians 3:16-19}

(5) And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; {10} That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; {11} Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. {Philippians 1:9-11}

(6) For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; {10} That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; {11} Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; {12} Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: {13} Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: {14} In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: {Colossians 1:9-14}

(7) Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. {12} And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: {13} To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. {1 Thessalonians 3:11-13}

(8) Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: {12} That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. {2 Thessalonians 1:11-12}

(9) Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, {21} Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. {Hebrews 13:20-21}

(10) But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. {11} To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. {1 Peter 5:10-11}

James 1:7 "For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the /\ Lord /\."

Let not that man think that he shall receive any thing:

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

James 1:8 "A double minded man <is> unstable in all his ways."

A double minded man is unstable:

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

2 Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

James 1:24 "For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was."

Natural face in a glass .. beholdeth himself, goeth his way, forgets:

1 Corinthians 13:12 "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

2 Corinthians 3:18 "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, <even> as by the Spirit of the Lord."

WAY: But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

KEY WORD: LAW {JAMES 1:25 – 4:12}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed {James 1:25}

(2) If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, you shalt love your neighbour as yourself, you do well {James 2:8}

(3) But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors {James 2:9}

(4) For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all {James 2:10}

(5) For he that said, Do not commit adultery, also said Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you art become a transgressor of the law {James 2:11}

(6) So speak and do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty {James 2:12}

(7) Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. {James 4:11}

(8) There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? {James 4:12}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

James 1:26 "If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his [ tongue ], but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion <is> vain."

Bridleth not his tongue:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KEY WORD: TONGUE {JAMES 1:26 – 3:8}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. {James 1:26}

(2) Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! {James 3:5}

(3) And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. {James 3:6}

(4) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. {James 3:8}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHILE: Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

James 1:27 "Pure religion and undefiled before /\ God /\ and the /\ Father /\ is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, <and> to keep himself unspotted from the world." .

Hosea 6:6 "For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings."

Micah 6:8 "He hath showed thee, O man, what <is> good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"

Matthew 23:23 "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier <matters> of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone."

Mark 12:33 "And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love <his> neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."

MISC: FAITH FACTS AND EXAMPLES {HEBREWS 11:1 – 12:2} {JAMES 2:10}

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) WHAT IS FAITH? Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. {2} For by it the elders obtained a good report. {3} Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. {Hebrews 11:1-3}

(2) WHAT IS IMPORTANT ABOUT FAITH? But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. {Hebrews 11:6}

(3) WHAT ARE RESULTS OF FAITH? By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. {5} By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. {Hebrews 11:4-5}

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. {8} By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. {9} By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. {10}
Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. {11} Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. {12} By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, {17}
Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: {18} Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure. {19} By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come. {20} By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff. {21} By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. {Hebrews 11:7-12, 17-21}

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. {23} By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; {24} Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; {25} Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. {26} By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. {27} Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. {28} By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. {29} By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days. {30} By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. {31} And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: {32} Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, {33} Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. {Hebrews 11:22-34}

(4) WHAT HAPPENED TO SOME IN THEIR FAITH? Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: {36} And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: {37} They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; {38} (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. {Hebrews 11:35-38}

(5) WHAT IF THEY DO NOT RECEIVE THE PROMISES OF FAITH? These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. {14} For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. {15} And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. {16} But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city {Hebrews 11:13-16}

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: {40} God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. {Hebrews 11:39-40}

(6) WHAT REASONS TO LIVE IN FAITH? Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, {Hebrews 12:1}

(7) WHAT GIVES US FAITH? Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. {Hebrews 12:2}

WORKS A TEST OF FAITH {JAMES 2:14-19}

WHAT: What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? {James 2:14}

WHY: If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food

If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, {James 2:15}

WITH: And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? {James 2:16}

WAY: Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. {James 2:17}

WHEREAS: Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. {James 2:18}

WHILE: Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. {James 2:19}

NEW SUBJECT:

James 2:14 "What <doth it> profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath [ faith ], and have not [ works ]? Can [ faith ] save him?"

WHAT: What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

A man say he hath faith .. have not works .. can faith save him:

Hebrews 11:1 and Hebrews 11:6 explain what faith is and the rest of Hebrews 11 shows that faith produced actions on the part of the faithful.

Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith <it is> impossible to please <him>: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and <that> he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

Matthew 7:26-27 "And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: {27} And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

Ephesians 2:8-10 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: <it is> the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should boast. {10} For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."It's God's works of faith we are to do

COMPARISON: FAITH & WORKS {JAMES 2:14 – 2:26}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) What does it profit, my brother, though a man say he hath faith, & have not works? can faith save him? {James 2:14}

(2) Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone {James 2:17}

(3) Yes, a man may say, you hast faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works {James 2:18}

(4) But do you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead {James 2:20}

(5) Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar {James 2:21}

(6) See how faith's efforts with his works, and by works with faith made perfect {James 2:22}

(7) You see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only {James 2:24}

(8) Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way {James 2:25}

(9) For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also {James 2:26}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

James 2:15 "If a [ brother ] or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,"

James 2:16 "And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be <ye> warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what <doth it> profit?"

WHY: Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

James 2:17 "Even so [ faith ], if it hath not [ works ], is dead, being alone."

So faith, if it hath not works, is dead, alone: See my faith paper.

Matthew 7:18-20 "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither <can> a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. {19} Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. {20} Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."

James 2:18 "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast [ faith ], and I have [ works ]: show me thy [ faith ] without thy [ works ], and I will show thee my [ faith ] by my [ works ]."

James 2:19 "Thou believest that there is one /\ God /\; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."

Believest .. there is one God .. the devils also believe, and tremble:

Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God <is> one LORD:"

Mark 12:29 "And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments <is>, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

Matthew 8:29 "And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?"

Luke 4:34 "Saying, Let <us> alone; what have we to do with thee, <thou> Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God."

FAITH WITH WORKS {JAMES 2:20-26}

WHY: But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? {James 2:20}

WAY: Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar

Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? {James 2:21}

WITH: Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect

Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? {James 2:22}

WHAT: The scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God

And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. {James 2:23}

WHEREAS: Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. {James 2:24}

WITH: Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way

Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? {James 2:25}

WHILE: For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. {James 2:26}

James 2:20 "But wilt thou know, O vain man, that [ faith ] without [ works ] is dead?"

James 2:21 "Was not Abraham our father justified by [ works ], when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?"

Abraham .. justified by works, when he had offered Isaac .. Upon .. altar:

Genesis 22:9 "And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood."

Genesis 22:12 "And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only <son> from me."

Hebrews 11:17-19 "By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten <son>. {18} Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: {19} Accounting that God <was> able to raise <him> up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure."

WAY: Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

James 2:22 "Seest thou how [ faith ] wrought with his [ works ], and by [ works ] was [ faith ] made [ perfect ]?"

THEME VERSE: PRACTICAL CHRISTIANITY OF FAITH IN JESUS AS SAVIOR WITH GOOD WORKS FOLLOWING CENTERED ON CHRISTIAN LOVE AND NOT BASED ON LAW. {JAMES 2:22-23}

James 2:23 "And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed /\ God /\, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of /\ God /\."

Abraham believed God .. it was imputed unto him for righteousness:

Genesis 15:6 "And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness." 1st he = Abraham/us & 2nd He = God.

Psalms 106:31 "And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore."

Romans 4:2-3 "For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath <whereof> to glory; but not before God. {3} For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."

PURPOSE: PURE CHRISTIANITY IS FROM GOD'S FAITH WITH HIS APPOINTED MAN'S WORKS FOLLOWING {JAMES 2:26}

The body without the spirit is dead: Person dies & spirit leaves. Also, people not born again are spiritual dead.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it."

John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." Does not believe equals spiritual dead.

1 Corinthians 12:3 "Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and <that> no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost."

Galatians 5:6 "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love."

(2) The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell {James 3:6}

(3) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison {James 3:8}

(4) With it we bless God, the Father; and with it we curse men, which are made after the similitude of God {James 3:9}

(5) Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show from a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom {James 3:13}

(6) This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, & of the devil {James 3:15}

(7) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy {James 3:17}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perfect man: See James 1:4 Perfect = mature

James 3:3 "Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body."

James 3:4 "Behold also the ships, which though <they be> so great, and <are> driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth."

James 3:5 "Even so the [ tongue ] is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!"

WHILE: And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

James 3:6 "And the [ tongue ] <is> a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell." Evil tongue remarks are from the devil.

James 3:7 "For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:"

WHY: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

James 3:8 "But the [ tongue ] can no man tame; <it is> an unruly evil, full of deadly poison."

Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet and bitter:

Matthew 7:18 "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither <can> a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit."

James 3:12 "Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so <can> no fountain both yield salt water and fresh."

James 3:14 "But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the [ truth ]."

Ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not:

2 Corinthians 12:20 "For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and <that> I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest <there be> debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:"

Philippians 2:3 "<Let> nothing <be done> through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

James 3:15 "This [ wisdom ] descendeth not from above, but <is> earthly, sensual, devilish."

CONTRASTS: GRACE, PEACE, & MERCY - RESULTING IN GOD'S PEACE {JAMES 3:18}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grace -> Un-merit flavor from God -> Getting what we do not deserve

James 4:2 "Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not."

WHAT: Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume <it> upon your lusts

James 4:3 "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume <it> upon your lusts."

Ye ask .. receive no .. because ye ask amiss .. ye consume .. upon your lust:

Psalms 66:18 "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear <me>:"

1 John 3:22 "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight." If we do not keep his commandments or do not please Him.

1 John 5:14 "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:"

James 4:4 "Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with /\ God /\? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of /\ God /\."

Friendship of the world is enmity with God .. enemy of God:

John 15:19 "If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

Romans 8:7 "Because the carnal mind <is> enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be."

Galatians 6:14 "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world."

1 John 2:15-17 "Love not the world, neither the things <that are> in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. {16} For all that <is> in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. {17} And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

James 4:5 "Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?" No scripture quoted directly.

The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy:

Genesis 6:5 "Every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."

Genesis 8:21 "The imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth."

WHILE: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

James 4:6 "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, /\ God /\ resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."

God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble:

Proverbs 3:34 "Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly."

Romans 5:15 "But not as the offence, so also <is> the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, <which is> by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many."

1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. {6} Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:"

2 Peter 3:18 "But grow in grace, and <in> the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him <be> glory both now and for ever. Amen."

See my paper: "Grace" DEFINITION OF GRACE; GRACE FOR BELIEVERS; ONLY KINDNESS TO UNBELIEVERS; GRACE GROWTH; GRACE SAVES for more information on this subject.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISC: GRACE {JAMES 4:6}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GRACE DEFINITION: Unmerited flavor from God to man. Getting what we do not deserve as compared with mercy: not getting what we deserve.

(1) Titus 3:5 "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" Mercy not grace

GRACE IS A GIFT:

(1) Romans 5:15 "But not as the offence, so also <is> the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, <which is> by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many." Gift from God to elected believers only

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: <it is> the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should boast." God gives grace & we believe unto salvation. It is a gift of God and not of man's work.

WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE:

(1) Psalms 84:11 "For the LORD God <is> a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good <thing> will he withhold from them that walk uprightly." God gives the grace so man can walk saved

(2) Acts 15:11 "But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they." Grace from God to save the elect

(3) Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then <is it> no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if <it be> of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." God's grace is not man's works

GRACE GROWS BY KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS & OUR HUMILITY:

(1) Proverbs 3:34 "Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly." Grace to lowly

(2) James 4:6 "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." Grace to humble

(3) 1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all <of you> be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble."

(4) 2 Peter 1:2 "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord," Grace multipled by knowledge of God

(5) 2 Peter 3:18 "But grow in grace, and <in> the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him <be> glory both now and for ever. Amen."

GOD GIVES ONLY LOVING KINDNESS TO UNBELIEVER: Only Christians receive God's grace starting with salvation making them God's children. God provides loving kindness to man so that he can exist.

(1) Matthew 5:45 "That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." Loving kindness

(2) Acts 14:17 "Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness." Loving kindness

(3) 1 Timothy 6:17 "Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;" Loving kindness

MAN MAY FAIL TO RECEIVE GOD'S GRACE: God provides grace to only His Christians. Unbelievers do not receive grace in vain, are bitter & defiled, have wrong gospel, & deny Jesus.

(1) 2 Corinthians 6:1 "We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain." God is blessing, but the unbeliever is not receiving making the grace vain

(2) Galatians 1:6-7 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: {7} Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ." To follow the wrong gospel removes the person from grace.

(3) Hebrews 12:15 "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;" Bitterness leads to failed grace.

(4) Jude 1:4 "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." God's grace used wrong leads man to denying Christ.

Is any among you afflicted .. let him pray: Faith for healing

Jesus was whipped before going to the cross for our sicknesses and diseases. His death on the cross was for our sins. Matthew 8:17 shows that Jesus healing all the sick was to fulfill Isaiah 53 the atonement chapter. Therefore, healing is included in the atonement.

Isaiah 53:4-5 "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. {5} But he <was> wounded for our transgressions, <he was> bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace <was> upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

Matthew 8:16-17 "When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with <his> word, and healed all that were sick: {17} That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare <our> sicknesses."

Call for the elder:

Acts 20:17 "And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church." Paul refers to them in 20:28 as overseers.

Acts 20:28 "Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." (1 Peter 5:2: feed - shepherd and oversight - overseer)

The Church officers of Elder, Overseer, Presbyter, Bishop, Pastor and Shepherd are all similar positions. One may study Bible more.

Overseer is the same Greek word Bishop used in Philippians 1:1, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:7 and 1 Peter 2:25. Also called Elder in Acts 14:23 which is the same position as Bishop and Presbyters as found in 1 Timothy 4:14 and 1 Timothy 5:17. "To feed" is the same Greek word as shepherd. Pastor is found in Ephesians 4:11 and is the Greek word for shepherd. The shepherd is the one into whose care the sheep (flock) have been committed for feeding, caring, and protection for growth to maturity. The purpose of the different words are as follows: Elder indicates a mature spiritual experienced person in a position of authority. Bishop indicates the character of the work undertaken as overseer or guardian. Shepherd or Pastor indicates the function or responsibility of watching, teaching, and guiding the flock.

1 Timothy 5:17 "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine."

Philippians 2:12 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much:

John 9:31 "Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth."

WHEN: Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

James 5:17 "Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he [ prayed ] earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months."

Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are .. he prayed:

1 Kings 17:1 "And Elijah the Tishbite, <who was> of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, <As> the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word."

1 Kings 18:1 "And it came to pass <after> many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth."

1 Kings 18:41-46 "And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for <there is> a sound of abundance of rain. {42} So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, {43} And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, <There is> nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. {44} And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare <thy chariot>, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. {45} And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. {46} And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel."

Luke 4:25 "But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;"

James 5:18 "And he [ prayed ] again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her [ fruit ]."

James 5:19 "Brethren, if any of you do err from the [ truth ], and one convert him;"

James 5:20 "Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins."

If one err from truth .. one convert him .. he which convert sinner from error .. save a soul from death .. hide multitude of sins:

Proverbs 10:12 "Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins."

John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Romans 11:14 "If by any means I may provoke to emulation <them which are> my flesh, and might save some of them."

1 Peter 4:8 "And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins."
