This paper discusses the Bible book of Mark. It may have been the first gospel written. The gospel was written to show Jesus works rather than what Jesus said. It explains Jewish customs to non-Jews, moves quickly with words like immediately, and vividly describes events. Mark may have been writing Peter’s gospel as he spent a lot of time with Peter. All scriptures are from the King James' version Bible.

MARK’S BACKGROUND:

Acts 12:11-12 "And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. {12} And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying." Mark’s mother’s house was key gathering place of early believers in Jerusalem.

Acts 12:24-25 "But the word of God grew and multiplied. {25} And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark." Mark goes on missionary journey with Paul.

Acts 13:13 "Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem." John failed & left journey.

Acts 15:36-40 "And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do. {37} And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. {38} But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. {39} And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; {40} And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God." A falling out between Paul & Barnabas over Mark is later corrected by Paul.

Acts 9:26-27 "And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. {27} But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus." Barnabas first brought Paul to the disciples. This falling out between Paul & Barnabas was a major setback which Paul later restores Mark.

Colossians 4:10 "Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)" Mark is Barnabas cousin.

2 Timothy 4:11 "Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry." Paul ask for Mark as he is back in Paul’s grace.

Philemon 1:24 "Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers." Mark is completely restored as partner of the gospel with Paul.

1 Peter 5:13 "The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son." Peter has a close relationship with Mark who learns about Jesus life & ministry which Mark uses to writes the first gospel.

The sin is in Mark which explains it to be saying Jesus is evil.

The same account in Luke states He is the kingdom of God. Those that committed the sin had no doubt about Jesus being of God.

This sin is accounted to those who did it with knowledge. They saw the miracles, but rejected, knowing Jesus is from the kingdom of God. Paul did not see Jesus miracles, blasphemed in unbelief.

If the person is a Christian, then he will love God & man. Faith works will follow. If they do not show these signs, it proves that they are not of the elect Christians.

Four types of people are shown in this parable where the seed represents the Word of God. The non believer is type 1 group. The mere believer is types 2 group. The carnal Christian will not endure to the end is type 3 group. The Elect Christian will endure to the end is type 4 group.

1) Way side -> trodden down -> fowls devour it -> people hear Word -> Devil takes away Word -> out of their hearts -> lest they believe & be saved

The Sower Parable shows four groups of hearer of the Word. Non believers never receive the Word, the Devil takes the Word away from their heart, so they never believe or act on it. They are from the Sower Parable as group 1.

2) Rock -> sprung up -> withered away -> lack moisture -> Mere believer's hear the Word -> receive with joy -> no root -> for awhile believe -> in time of temptation -> fall away

There is a distinction between a mere believer who simply follows Christianity professes faith who receives the Word, acts on it, endures for a time, tempted, & falls away. They are from the Sower Parable as group 2.

3) Thorns -> sprung up -> thorns choked it -> Carnal worldly believer's heard Word -> go forth -> choked with cares and riches -> pleasures of this life -> bring no fruit -> to perfection

There are carnal followers of Christianity who receives the Word, acts on it, looked as if they were the Elect, endure for a time. However, the cares, riches, and deceitful pleasures of the world means they don't produce Christian faith fruits nor go on to perfection. They are from the Sower Parable as group 3.

4) Good ground -> sprang up -> bare fruit -> hundred fold -> Elect believer's with a honest and good heart -> heard the Word -> keep it -> bring forth faith fruits with patience

The Elect believer will receives the Word, act on it to the end, & bring forth fruit. The scriptures teach that Elect people will persevere because God will preserve them. They are from the Sower Paravle as group 4.

The meaning & significance of communion is that the broken bread symbolizes Jesus body broken in death for us. Likewise the cup of wine symbolizes Jesus spilled blood on the cross for us. These elements bear witness to the death of Christ until he returns.

No statement that he that is not baptized shall be damned. Both items could of been included.

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned: There are many more scriptures (such as John 3:16 and Romans 10:9) that state believing in Jesus bring salvation. Many other scriptures state that a Christian should: confess (Romans 10:9), repent of sins (Acts 2:38), love (1 John 4:7), overcome the world (1 John 5:4), walk in Christ (Colossians 3:10), faith (John 1:12), be Baptized (Mark 16:16) and on & on. Are these things needed for salvation? Just what is needed for salvation and forgiveness of our sins? A Christian will try to follow Jesus in all these, but faith, that God by grace supplies, in Jesus is what saves the Christian. This is a small example of the many scriptures that state believing in Jesus saves a person.

Believe -> not perish -> eternal life

Confess -> believe -> saved

Baptism symbolizes us, in Christ, being:

- Crucified with Christ Jesus: vs 6;

- Dead with Christ: vs 5;

- Buried with Christ: vs 4;

- Resurrected with Christ: vs 4;

- Newness of life with Christ: vs 4;
